19th  -  22nd  October  2020

4 day tour

The feature of this tour will be our one night’s accommodation in the grounds of the outstanding Western Plains Zoo   (Ph: 6881 1488).   It includes an afternoon guide, dinner, an early morning safari and African inspired ‘breakfast’ – a fabulous opportunity for a behind the scenes experience at this wonderful facility.

Through research, action and advocacy, Taronga is leading vital work that supports wildlife habitats and communities around the globe.   The zoo opened in 1977 and has expanded to over 300 hectares and has had great success with its breeding programs.   Our overnight accommodation in the lodges will give us much more time to appreciate this amazing collection of animals.

We will also enjoy our first night in the 4 star Quality Ambassador Motel in Orange, Australia’s colour city   (Ph:  6393 7500).  Four very different seasons ensure our visit will be a little different with each season having its own special charm.   Canobolas, an extinct volcano, towers over Orange and the Cabonne country surveying its legacy of fertility.

The area has a fine reputation as a food bowl with grain fed beef, fat lambs, grapes, apples, cherries, stone fruit, berries, nuts and vegetables all produced in abundance.  Orange today is a sophisticated and prosperous city with a history dating back to the very first gold rush and many fine heritage buildings.

Our last night is at the 3 star Comfort Inn Aden Mudgee. The town and surrounding districts are rich in history and we will have Jenny Tidey, an enthusiastic local, sharing Mudgee’s heritage as well as bringing us up to date with more recent developments.   A flourishing wine industry has seen the town expand in recent years, however Mudgee has retained its character with settlement here dating back to the 1820s and its ‘golden’ past remains very evident.   Surrounded by rich grazing country and a diversity of agriculture and horticulture, all framed by stunning National Parks, the district has become famous for its hospitality.

Our journey west takes us over the Blue Mountains through Leura and Katoomba and we will return from Mudgee through Lithgow, Mt Tomah, Bilpin and Kurrajong.

Other highlights include:

  • Bathurst Heritage tour
  • Cook Park and Orange Botanic Gardens
  • Lake Canobolas and Borrodell Vineyard
  • Wellington and Cameron Park
  • Guided Tour of Dubbo including the Regional Cultural Centre and Japanese Gardens
  • Mudgee Town Tour and lunch
  • Lithgow, Mt Tomah, Bilpin and Kurrajong

Cost per person is $1,120.00 and includes all meals and admissions.  Single supplement is $190.00.
